Incontinence in Women

Urinary incontinence simply means involuntary discharge of urine. This usually happens more on women rather than men. Women suffer urinary incontinence twice as that of men. Who says that incontinence does not depend on the gender? While it is true that urinary incontinence or maybe adult incontinence also affects men, there are more cases when women are the ones affected. There are Adult diaper that are made for women but I will get into that later in the post.

There are many women who suffer involuntary loss of urine. This sometimes happens by engaging in sports activities, during a sexual activity, or when in a great deal of stress. Other women call urinary incontinence as “sudden gush”.
Some causes of urinary incontinent in women are childbirth, menopause, and defects of the female urinary tract. For both men and women, the causes may be birth defects, stroke, physical problems associated with aging, brain injury, or multiple sclerosis.
Most women suffer urinary incontinence because of stress-related problems, otherwise known as stress incontinence. Stress incontinence is one of the types of incontinence which is common in women.  This refers to physical changes in one’s body as a result of pregnancy, childbirth and menopause. The said physical changes can alter or weaken the scaffolding that protects the bladder, in effect, making it hard to prevent the leakage of urine.
Another common type of incontinence in women is the urge incontinence. This happens when a woman lose her urine with no reason after feeling the urge to urinate. A common cause of this type of incontinence is inappropriate contractions in one’s bladder. Urge incontinence occurs while you are sleeping, when touching water or hearing it running, or when drinking even a small quantity of water. When one feels that she is suffering from this incontinence, she should immediately consult a doctor before taking medicine, as this may worsen the incontinence.
There are some vaginal devices for the treatment of incontinence among women. One reason for incontinence is having weak pelvic muscles; said muscles are responsible in holding the bladder and also the urine. A doctor remedies this problem by inserting a stiff ring called the “pessary” in the vagina. The “pessary” has the effect of pressing the wall of the vagina and the urethra near it; as a result, there will less leakage. However, when is using a “pessary”, one must see her doctor regularly because it may cause vaginal and urinary tract infections if not taken care of properly.
It is true that urinary incontinence is common among women than men, as such; women of all ages must take care of his body well. To do this, one must be aware what is happening to one’s body. A “sudden gush” or a small amount of urine coming out of the vagina may be normal but if it is not taken care of, it may lead to abnormal discharge of urine. If this happens, one may be compelled to use an adult diaper or worse, a catheter. If one sees an adult diaper to be embarrassing, what more a tube that stems from one’s vagina.
